The Inspiring Journey of Costume Designer Abinanthini

Abinanthini, a passionate and driven costume designer, was born and raised in Chennai Broadway. Her father’s native place is Elangadu, Vandavasi, which holds a special connection to her roots. From a very young age, Abinanthini dreamt of becoming a part of the media industry. Initially, she aspired to become a journalist, but as time went by, her passion gradually shifted towards fashion designing.

She pursued her dreams by enrolling in a Diploma course in Fashion Designing at Dream Zone, a decision that paved the way for her journey into the creative world. Her first step into the professional sphere came through her job at Puthiya Thalaimurai, where she joined on a stylist basis. Although she was new to the industry at that time, her eagerness to learn and grow was evident. She deeply admired the media industry and made valuable connections that would later help her transition into the film world.

Abinanthini was always keen on developing her skill set. To enhance her knowledge, she joined hands with a senior fashion designer who mentored her in learning the nuances of designing for all genders and working on branding. She also collaborated with other fashion designers, gaining hands-on experience in different domains of fashion design. Her commitment to mastering the craft eventually led her to open her own studio, which has now been running successfully for seven years.

Her big break came through a film called Jama. Her friend Pari Elavazhagan, who was already working in the industry, offered her an opportunity to work on the costumes for the pilot. Her work was well-received, and as a result, she was brought on board to design costumes for the entire cast. This project marked her entry into the cinema industry and set the tone for future success.

Following Jama, Abinanthini was signed for another major project, Star, where she worked alongside another costume designer and managed nearly half of the movie’s costume design. Her contribution to Star received widespread appreciation and established her reputation as a talented and professional designer in the Tamil film industry.

Apart from Jama and Star, she has worked on several other notable films, including Sanjeevan, 333 starring Sandy Master, and Adho Mugam, for which she handled styling. Each of these projects added to her portfolio and sharpened her skills further. Her consistent and high-quality work has not gone unnoticed, as she’s been offered more movie projects, some of which are currently in production and yet to be officially announced.

In addition to her work in cinema, Abinanthini has stayed true to her roots in the media world. She is actively working with Kalaignar TV and News Tamil 24×7, contributing her expertise in fashion and styling. She is also part of a new Malayalam news channel venture by News Tamil 24×7, further extending her reach in regional media. Her time at Puthiya Thalaimurai helped shape her media career, and she often mentions how it was the stepping stone for everything that followed.

Her studio offers a wide range of services including branding, personalized design work, and online services tailored to client needs. With a strong foundation and growing clientele, her business continues to thrive. Her online business model makes her designs more accessible and reflects her adaptability in the evolving digital landscape.

Beyond her professional achievements, Abinanthini is a food lover with a deep passion for cooking. She says her love for cooking began in childhood and considers it an essential skill that everyone should learn. To her, cooking is not just a hobby but a life skill that brings joy and balance to her busy schedule.

Abinanthini’s journey is a testament to hard work, continuous learning, and unwavering dedication. From a young dreamer in Broadway to a celebrated costume designer in the Tamil film industry, she has carved a path that inspires many young women today. Her ability to juggle multiple roles—as a studio owner, media stylist, and film costume designer—speaks volumes about her talent and determination.

Her work has been praised for its attention to detail, creativity, and cultural relevance. With many more movie projects lined up and her ongoing collaborations with television channels, Abinanthini is undoubtedly a rising star in the world of costume design.
