Ramesh Nandhan is an aspiring upcoming director born in Chennai, who completed his studies in Mechanical Engineering. His career interest in cinema was not rooted in childhood, although he does come from a cinema-related background—his father worked as a stuntman, though only for a limited period.

 

During his college days, he developed an interest in extracurricular activities, which eventually led him to visit a film shooting spot. This experience became a way for him to earn partial income. However, due to some unfortunate issues on campus, he was expelled from college. Despite his efforts to continue his education, differences in opinion led him to leave it behind.

 

After that, he began clicking pictures for fun, and quickly discovered he had a natural talent for it. Wanting to explore this further, he decided to pursue photography. Through a friend’s contact, he joined the photography department of a well-known director as an assistant. This opened up more opportunities to visit various shooting spots. Now working as a photographer, he found himself surrounded by directors and creative teams, and this exposure sparked his interest in writing.

 

Though his early writing attempts were rejected, he didn’t give up. His first short film idea came from a tragic incident involving a close friend. Deeply affected, he wrote a story in remembrance of his friend. Despite facing technical difficulties, the short film was a massive success.

 

Following that, he created dance covers with narrative elements, continuing to explore new formats. He gained opportunities to work side-by-side with cinema professionals, furthering his learning and skills.

 

In between his cinema projects, he also worked as a content director for YouTube channels. He directed a couple of short films and a feature film, some of which did not turn out well, while others were dropped.

Director Ramesh Nandhan made a remarkable mark in the industry with his short film “Valar Pirai” (Crescent) which received widespread acclaim and garnered numerous awards and recognition across various platforms – Cinematographer Gopi Duraisamy did cinematography for this film, and also this year he released a short film named Holy Water, which currently receiving widespread acclaim and recognition. Continuing his creative journey, he also directed the soulful album song Vennira Iravugal Lead Role by Master Mahendran, which soared to great heights and was honoured with the Best Album Song Award at the MOONINREDS 2025 Awards. The music for the track was composed by Deepan Chakravarthy, with evocative lyrics penned by Mohan Raja, making it a truly memorable collaboration.

 

Despite all these setbacks, he never stopped moving forward. His journey reflects persistence, passion, and a deep commitment to storytelling. Director Ramesh Nandhan is currently immersed in the writing of his upcoming feature film, pouring his creativity and vision into what promises to be a compelling cinematic experience.
