In the ever-evolving world of music, where versatility and depth are often the key to standing out, M. J. SruthiRanjani emerges as a rare gem — a classically grounded, genre-spanning, and emotionally resonant artist whose voice bridges heritage and modernity with effortless grace.

A formally trained Carnatic vocalist, SruthiRanjani’s musical foundation was laid at an early age, thanks to the encouragement and foresight of her parents. “Carnatic music is my base,” she often says — a statement that reflects not only her gratitude but also the core strength of her incredible vocal control, depth, and emotive delivery. Years of rigorous training, listening to legendary performers, and attending concerts have shaped her into a singer whose range stretches from ancient ragas to contemporary film songs.

From Carnatic Roots to Contemporary Heights

SruthiRanjani’s career has blossomed beautifully, marked by dynamic collaborations, playback singing for major music labels like Saregama and Lyca Music, and a string of independent works that reflect her creative freedom. Whether it’s Tamil film melodies, Bollywood hits, or soul-soothing devotional tracks, she delivers each with a rare blend of technical precision and heartfelt expression.

Her award-winning independent track “Chandrachooda” is a recent feather in her cap. Crowned as the Best Carnatic Track at the Indian Music Awards 2024 (organized by Hungama Music and Artists Aloud), the song earned over 50,000 public votes, capturing the imagination of classical music lovers across India. Receiving the award from music legends Padma Shri Anup Jalota and Penaz Masani at a grand event in Mumbai marked a milestone in her musical journey — a perfect blend of past glory and present promise.

Reality Shows, Rare Moments, and Revered Legends

From a young age, SruthiRanjani was no stranger to the spotlight. As a child artist in a reality show, she had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform the iconic song “Paattondru Ketten” composed by the legendary M. S. Viswanathan — in front of the maestro himself. His heartfelt appreciation remains one of her most treasured memories, a moment that continues to inspire her even today.

Her frequent participation in reality competitions over the years has only sharpened her stage presence and won her multiple accolades, further proving her mettle as a performer who can connect with diverse audiences.

Beyond the Stage: A Mentor and a Multi-Talented Mind

SruthiRanjani is more than just a performer. She is also a passionate mentor, guiding music students from India and abroad with the same rigor and love that she applies to her own craft. Her teaching style emphasizes not just technical training but also the aesthetic and emotional essence of music, making her a beloved figure among her students.

Her talents don’t end with singing. SruthiRanjani is a MBA graduate with a strong inclination towards finance, and she enjoys creative outlets such as painting and interior design. Her multifaceted personality reflects a harmonious blend of analytical thinking and artistic flair, a combination that enhances her approach to both music and life.

Her lyrical debut as a songwriter in the RMKV 100th Festive Collection 2024 jingle further underscored her artistic versatility. The jingle, rich with cultural nuances and musical freshness, received wide appreciation and added yet another dimension to her growing creative portfolio.

An Inspiration for the Times

On March 8, 2025 — International Women’s Day, SruthiRanjani was honored with the “Best Playback Singer” Award at the Inspiring Women’s Awards by Kalaam World Records 2025. The recognition celebrated not just her musical talent but also her role as an inspiring female voice in the industry, breaking barriers and setting benchmarks.

Despite all her accomplishments, when asked about a favorite song, she humbly says, “Every song is unique, but if I must choose — it would be ‘Kuzhal Oothum Kannanukku’ from Mella Thirandhathu Kadhavu.” It’s a reflection of her humility and deep respect for music’s diversity.

Shruthi Ranjani has been actively contributing to the independent music scene across multiple languages, showcasing her versatility as a singer, composer, and writer. Her recent original indie single Manzil, released in collaboration with Dhun Records, highlights her multifaceted artistry—written, composed, and sung entirely by her. She also lent her voice to Kanulu Moosina, an evocative independent track featured in the short film India Weds London.

2023 proved to be a breakthrough year for Shruthi — the kind of year every aspiring artist dreams of but few truly experience. She stepped into the national spotlight by winning a prestigious talent hunt for original playback compositions, hosted by Zoofanoon Productions. The stage was set with an illustrious jury — the velvet-voiced Hariharan, the ever-graceful Kavitha Krishnamurthy, and the charismatic Shaan — each lending their discerning ear to the competition.

Victory brought with it more than a trophy. It opened the doors to Re N Raga Studios in Mumbai, where Shruthi found herself in the rare company of masters. Under the lyrical and melodic guidance of composer–lyricist Aarif Khan, and with the approving nods of legendary sound engineer and recordist Shantanu Mukherjee, she recorded five original Hindi compositions. Each session was a masterclass — moments where precision met passion, and where Shruthi’s voice was not just captured, but sculpted into something timeless.
