Ahmed Asjad: Building Digital Pathways for Cinema

Born in Puttalam, Sri Lanka, Ahmed Asjad represents a new-age bridge between cinema and digital strategy. Having completed his schooling in Puttalam and College in Colombo, his early exposure to multiple cultures and creative spaces played a quiet but important role in shaping his worldview. While films always fascinated him, it was the growing power of digital media that eventually defined his professional direction.

A Diploma holder in Digital Marketing, Ahmed began his career by mastering the tools and language of the digital world. At a time when cinema was slowly shifting its promotional focus from traditional media to online platforms, he recognised an opportunity that aligned perfectly with his skills. Rather than entering films through conventional routes, he chose to approach the industry through what he knew best digital marketing and digital PR.

His initial years in cinema were rooted in independent films, where he worked on promotions, visibility strategies, and audience outreach. These early projects helped him understand the pulse of film marketing, audience behaviour, and the importance of positioning a film correctly in the digital space. Gradually, his work began gaining attention within industry circles.

By around 2023, Ahmed transitioned into working on more notable film projects, particularly in the area of digital listings and campaign pitching. Instead of waiting for opportunities, he actively pitched digital strategies to production houses, presenting how targeted online campaigns could enhance a film’s reach and recall. This proactive approach became one of his key strengths.

Ahmed is the founder of Sound Horn Digital, a company dedicated to digital marketing for films. The firm focuses on Google Ads campaigns, digital PR strategies, film listings and online promotional planning. Extending this vision further, he is also involved in Sound Horn Movies, through which he works on movie distribution in Sri Lanka, connecting regional markets with wider audiences.

Apart from films, Ahmed also handles celebrity digital presence, helping actors and filmmakers stay relevant, visible, and in sync with ongoing digital trends. From this year onward, Sound horn Digital is also expanding its scope to include brand marketing, applying cinematic storytelling principles to commercial campaigns.

Reflecting on his journey, Ahmed often points to his background, being born in one place and building a career across industries and regions as a defining influence. Films inspired him, digital tools empowered him, and the current digital era gave him the space to merge both worlds meaningfully.

Today, Ahmed Asjad stands as a Digital Publicist for films, artists, directors and production houses, steadily shaping how cinema communicates with its audience in the digital age.
