Dinesh aka Dheesha: The Journey of a Passionate Writer and Cinema Enthusiast
Dinesh, known by his pen name “Dheesha,” is a self-made writer and translator who has contributed immensely to the world of Tamil cinema literature. Born and raised in Pollachi, he developed a strong connection with Tamil language and cinema from an early age. His schooling in a Tamil medium school helped him become fluent in the language, a skill that would later define his career.
Although Dinesh holds a degree in Information Technology, his heart was always in cinema. During his college days, he started exploring the world of Tamil cinema magazines, especially in Tamil Studio (A place for Democratic Cinema), where he found a deep fascination with the stories, techniques, and behind-the-scenes aspects of filmmaking. His love for cinema pushed him to reach out to the team behind Tamil Studio to learn more, which eventually led him to Chennai.
Upon arriving in Chennai, Dinesh faced several challenges, including finding a place to stay. He joined a call centre to support his family and make ends meet. He even worked at a hotel in the evenings to further support himself. Despite these hardships, his passion for cinema never waned. Dinesh began contributing articles for Tamil Studio and “Pesamozhi” magazine and quickly gained recognition for his thoughtful analysis and unique perspective on the world of Tamil cinema.
His years working with Vidhai, an organic store for vegetables, helped him for his survival. Pure Cinema a prominent media platform, gave him the opportunity to meet several renowned celebrities and filmmakers. These interactions not only helped him improve his writing but also gave him invaluable insights into the world of cinema. Over time, his writing evolved, and he became known for his ability to dissect complex cinematic techniques and present them in an accessible way for readers.
Dinesh’s literary achievements include writing 15 books and translating 50 works from English to Tamil, all around cinema. His translated books have helped Tamil-speaking audiences understand the intricacies of world cinema, its history, and the techniques of legendary filmmakers. His work has inspired many aspiring filmmakers, offering them a deeper understanding of how cinema works and what it takes to become a successful director or writer.
