Karthik Netha – Poet & Lyricist
Karthik Netha is a celebrated Tamil lyricist known for his poetic depth and emotional writing. He was born in Chinnanur, Salem, where he completed his schooling at Vidhya Mandir Higher Secondary School. From a very young age, music was his passion. While other children were interested in regular activities, Karthik was constantly drawn towards melodies and lyrics. He grew up listening to the songs of T. Rajendar and Kannadasan, which shaped his love for meaningful song writing.
In the villages during the 80s and 90s, music lovers had the habit of printing and collecting lyrics of their favourite songs. Karthik too followed this tradition, often getting scolded for spending all his time with music—but his interest never faded. His determination remained unshakeable. He also travelled with village writers who wrote short stories, which influenced and improved his writing skills.
Determined to pursue a career in music, Karthik moved to Madras (Chennai) in search of opportunities. But the journey was tougher than he imagined, forcing him to return home. However, his dream never left him. In 2001, he returned to Chennai once again, this time to stay with his brother and fully dedicate himself to the music industry.
Career – Early Struggles and Breakthrough
After years of challenges, Karthik finally received his first major opportunity in 2005, in the film “Thotti Jaya”. The film and its songs turned out to be hits, yet the recognition he expected did not arrive immediately. Instead of giving up, he worked on ad music, gaining more experience and polishing his craft.
His second turning point came with the film “Nepali”, where he got the chance to write two songs. Gradually, his work began to receive attention, and soon came the milestone film “Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu.” The song “Pada Pada” from the film earned him the Best Upcoming Lyricist Award from Radio Mirchi, which became a major breakthrough in his career.
During this time, he met legendary lyricist Na. Muthukumar, who was impressed by his talent. The appreciation and encouragement Karthik received from him motivated Karthik to continue writing with greater passion and dedication.
Today, Karthik Netha has grown into one of the most recognized and respected lyricists in the Tamil film industry, known for songs that are soulful, poetic, and emotionally powerful. His journey from a music-obsessed schoolboy to an acclaimed lyricist remains an inspiring story of passion, resilience, and hard work.
