Kowshika: A Trailblazer in the Film Industry

Kowshika, a determined and ambitious woman born and brought up in Tondiarpet near Kasimedu in North Madras, has carved a distinctive path in the film industry, overcoming numerous obstacles along the way.

Kowshika attended a private school which is located around Pallavaram, where she experienced discrimination and bullying. This left her feeling isolated, as the school’s ideology was vastly different from her own.  From a young age, she harbored a deep interest in the film industry, though her teachers did not support her passion. During her board exams, they even suggested that she cut off cable television to focus on her studies, but Kowshika stood firm in her resolve. Her parents Mr. Padmanaban and Mrs. Indira and her grandparents Mrs. Rajalakshmi and Mr. Sathyamoorthy were the only unwavering support she had during this challenging period.

While in school, Kowshika created a short film that won second place at the national level, marking a pivotal moment in her life. This achievement ignited her determination to pursue a career in the film industry. Though, like many children, she initially dreamed of becoming a doctor, pilot, or engineer.  Mr. Sathyamoorthy kowshika’s grandfather connection to the film industry eventually helped her realize that her true calling lay in filmmaking.

During her 11th and 12th grades, Kowshika opted for the biology stream, despite her interest in commerce and computer science. Though the conventional academic path did not fully align with her aspirations, it was during this time that she made a firm decision to pursue a degree in Visual Communication in college.

While studying Viscom, Kowshika became actively involved in short film projects. A significant turning point in her career came when students from other college – F5 pixels team collaborated with her on various short films. These collaborations brought her national recognition and helped establish valuable professional relationships that continue to this day. For her first film production, her friend Mr. Narendran alwar and Mr. Yogesh from F5 pixels is appointed as director and cinematographer, further solidifying their collective journey into filmmaking.she always believed that “Good friends lift you up when your wings forget to fly”.  Throughout her school years and into her first year of college, Kowshika struggled with loneliness. However, by her second year of college, she began to break free from her shell.kowshika won more than 12 national and 8 international awards .  Despite language barriers and challenges related to food, she travelled to Delhi for international film festivals, demonstrating her dedication to her craft.

During her school board exam, due to the lack of interest in studies kowshika had started to get very low grades in her studies , even one of her teacher told that she won’t be get admitted in any colleges. Taking these words in mind, Kowshika completed her undergraduate degree in Viscom with the score of 95%  at sdnb Vaishnava College and later pursued a master’s degree at SRM University. Additionally, she earned a PG Diploma in Advertising from MTF institute portugal. Kowshika is Madras University rank holder and gold medalist. These educational experiences helped her refine her skills and prepared her for the competitive film industry.

Today, She is being as co- producer at “Aikaan Pictures,” and she had started her own business “Promoza advertising factory ” both of the firm operate under the Azesto Group of Companies founded by Mr. Aravind.S (Film Producer, Investor and entrepreneur ). Through these ventures, Kowshika has firmly established herself as both a producer and Investor in the industry.

While Kowshika has a deep passion for directing, she acknowledges the challenges women face in the film industry. Kowshika successfully did projects in the Tamil and Malayalam film industry with top leading stars like GV Prakash Kumar, Manikandan, Nivin pauly &  soori .

She expressed frustration over the lack of recognition that film entrepreneurs often receive in comparison to other roles in the industry. This sense of injustice led her to start her own production company.

Kowshika’s journey has been fraught with betrayals and setbacks. Many doubted her potential, dismissing the film industry as a matter of luck. However, Kowshika refused to let negativity define her path. She believes that no matter how successful one becomes, there will always be critics attempting to pull them down. Her philosophy is simple: ignore the detractors and keep moving forward.

Kowshika’s journey, which began with directing short films in her school days, has now evolved into a successful career in production and film entrepreneuring. Her first short film, directed in the 9th grade, filled her with a sense of fulfilment as she donated her prize money to an orphanage. Although she entered the industry unexpectedly, it has since become her true calling.

With her relentless drive and commitment to storytelling, Kowshika continues to make a significant impact on the film industry. She remains dedicated to supporting unique stories, fostering new talent, and pushing the boundaries of cinema.

Behind every successful woman there is a man , but for kowshika’s success there are many men who stood up and supported her.
