Beyond acting, Maaran is also an art director and filmmaker. His career spans across various creative and technical fields, making him a multi-talented personality in the Tamil entertainment industry.

Early Life and Entry into Media

Maaran hails from Villivakkam, where his father was a Panchayat head. During his childhood, he spent most of his time with friends and enjoyed laughing and taking life lightly, even in challenging situations. He studied at Singaram Primary School and had a keen interest in drawing from a young age. Before stepping into the television industry, Maaran worked with Gangai Amaranʼs channel “Nam TV” as an art director. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the channel shut down. He then moved on to work for Global Eagle Communication and later joined Vijay Mallyaʼs channel as an art director. His career took a major turn when he got an opportunity to work with Sun TV as an art director. Later, he collaborated with Santhanam and Vadivel Balaji for a show at Second Land Beach, which paved the way for various small programs and stage events. He also contributed to setting up shooting sets in Sathya Studios and worked on reality shows for multiple channels.

Maaran’s journey in comedy began when he joined with his friend to create a comedy show called “Comedy Bazaar”. Initially, the show had permission for just two comedians, but they gradually expanded into a full-fledged team and delivered over 2000 episodes.

Maaran not only performed but also wrote scripts for the show, making it one of the most successful comedy programs on Jaya TV. He recalled how director Lokesh Kanagaraj praised him for his dialogues in Comedy Bazaar, which remains one of his proudest moments. He was widely known as “Comedy Bazaar Maaran” even in the film industry, and his programs consistently received high TRP ratings. His career took another leap when he got an opportunity to be a part of “Lollu Sabha” on Vijay TV. Although Comedy Bazaar had more episodes than Lollu Sabha, Maaran acknowledged that Lollu Sabhaʼs re-telecast during the COVID19 pandemic made him more famous among audiences. However, he still preferred the identity of “Comedy Bazaar Maaran” over “Lollu Sabha Maaran”.

Maaran expressed that earlier, TV artists struggled to get opportunities in films, as the industry preferred actors who came from a film background. He recalled how he missed the chance to act in Simbuʼs hit movie “Manmadhan”, which left him disappointed. However, he praised Simbu for recognizing and encouraging new talents in cinema.

Despite writing numerous scripts, Maaran found it difficult to gain recognition as a scriptwriter. He mentioned that writing comedy scripts is extremely challenging, as it requires an understanding of humor, body language, and voice modulation to bring characters to life. He advised aspiring comedians to never miss an opportunity, as even a small role can open doors in the film industry. Over time, he struggled to balance his career, and despite receiving opportunities, his health sometimes held him back. However, he remained a respected figure in the Tamil entertainment industry and continues to receive recognition from channels and fans alike.

Maaran faced challenges in finding a producer for his films, which led him to a career slowdown. During this period, he reached out to Santhanamʼs team, which helped him secure a role as one of the scriptwriters for the movie “Inimey Ippadithan”. He continued to work closely with Santhanam and contributed to multiple successful films. His career gained momentum again with the blockbuster success of the movie “A1”, but the COVID19 pandemic slowed down his opportunities once again. However, Maaran never lost hope and gradually started receiving film offers again.

Throughout his journey, he has remained humble, down-to-earth, and friendly with everyone in the industry. Currently, he is selecting projects carefully and ensuring that he works in a fun-filled environment, as his ultimate goal is to spread happiness through comedy. Apart from his work He specially mentioned that everyone should read books, as it is very important for life. He also mentioned that reading has played a crucial role in shaping his thoughts and creativity. Many of his scripts were inspired by books, which he would then creatively reverse into jokes. He enjoys reading Periyar and Ambedkar’s books, gaining valuable knowledge and perspective from them. He believes that continuous learning through reading helps improve thinking and writing skills, which is why he encourages the younger generation to develop the habit of reading regularly.
