Director Nagendran

Introduction

In the vibrant world of Tamil cinema, the journey of film director Nagendran
stands out as a compelling story of resilience, ambition, and the relentless
pursuit of dreams. Born on November 2, 1986, the same date as Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Nagendran’s life and career are a testament to the adage that great things often come from humble beginnings. From his roots in Karayampatti, Nadupatti, Nilakkottai in Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu, to his present endeavors in filmmaking, Nagendran’s story is both inspiring and
instructive for aspiring filmmakers.

” Early Life and Education”

Nagendran’s early years were shaped by the love and support of his family,
particularly his chiththappa (uncle) Karuppayya and his grandmother
Ayyammal. His Father name is Ayyamani. Mother name is Muthukamakshi.
Growing up in a small village, he faced the challenges typical of rural life but
was driven by a passion for cinema from a young age. His formal education was
limited to the 10th grade, after which he chose to enter the workforce while
pursuing his interest in catering.

“Career Beginnings and Struggles”

Nagendran’s career path took a significant turn when he ventured into the catering business. He established Majestic Catering and Housekeeping Company, which initially enjoyed considerable success. However, this period was marked by setbacks when he was deceived by friends and faced financial difficulties. The turbulent years of 2005-2006 were particularly challenging, leading him to explore new opportunities.

In 2006, his chiththappa opened a store for him in Madurai, next to a friend’s shop “Power Seat Cover” and his name Raj. This friend was also a cinema enthusiast, which rekindled Nagendran’s
passion for films. He began his film journey as a junior artist in the movie
“Mercury Pookal,” featuring Srikanth and Meera Jasmine. This initial foray into
cinema was followed by roles in other films such as “Thimiru” and
“Sandaikozhi,” which were shot in the Madurai region.

Setbacks in Chennai and the Path Forward

Nagendran’s move to Chennai, aiming to further his career in filmmaking, was
fraught with challenges. He fell victim to deceit by a fake production team and
a fraudulent assistant director, which set back his progress. Despite these
obstacles, Nagendran persevered, working various odd jobs, including as a bus
cleaner in 2008, to support himself and continue pursuing his dream.
In Chennai, he befriended several individuals who would become significant in
his career, including people like Attakathi Dinesh, Aadukalam Murugadoss, and
Vijay Sethupathi. These connections proved valuable as he navigated the
complex film industry landscape.

“Professional Growth and Industry Connections”

Nagendran’s determination eventually led him to work with various directors
and industry professionals. He joined forces with director Manikandan for the
film “Chikku Bukku,” featuring Arya and Shreya Saran, where he worked as an
assistant. His association with MS Mani and Co-directors Senthil Velan, Velan,
and Kuberan further solidified his connections in the industry.
He also gained experience working with YG Mahendran and Delli Ganesh in
Serials as Co-Director, and even collaborated with Malayalam director Veenis.
During this period, he forged a close friendship with renowned
cinematographer Madhu Ambat , a three-time National Award winner, and
contributed to the film “Madhu Ambat,” which unfortunately faced setbacks
due to the demonetization crisis. Also he worked with Malayalam director
Benny Thomas.

Despite the setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges,
Nagendran’s resolve to make his mark in the film industry remains strong. The
first look of his film “Milir” was well-received, thanks to the support from PA
Ranjith, and he continues to work on new projects. Recently he worked as an
associate director at upcoming Hot Star series “Om Khali Jai Khali” directed by
Ramu Chellappa. His upcoming ventures “Milir” include collaborations with
Producer Surya Devi, Dinesh Antony and others with the aim to make a
significant impact in Tamil cinema. It’s under Production work.

Nagendran’s journey from a small village in Tamil Nadu to the world of
filmmaking is a remarkable tale of perseverance and passion. His story
highlights the importance of resilience in the face of adversity and the value of
maintaining relationships and building connections within the industry. As he

remains an inspiring figure for aspiring filmmakers everywhere. MooninRed
