Sanjay Manickam is an emerging music director from Chennai, making notable strides in the world of cinema music. His journey into music began in his early childhood when his mother—who comes from a musically inclined background—encouraged him to take up keyboard classes. Although initially uninterested, this first step proved to be a turning point in his life.
Sanjay started by learning Carnatic music on the keyboard, which laid the foundation for his passion. As time passed, he transitioned to Western styles, broadening his musical understanding and creativity. During his high school years, he actively participated in cultural events, not just as an instrumentalist but also as a vocalist. This exposure played a key role in developing his confidence and versatility as a musician.
His college years saw further growth—Sanjay composed music for multiple short films and cultural programs and has bagged several awards for his works across colleges. He also acted in a short film, showcasing his creative flair beyond music. With strong support from his parents, Sanjay explored all aspects of music production, from composition to sound design.
In the early stages of his career, he released independent music singles that garnered attention and showcased his unique musical voice. These efforts paid off when he landed his first feature film project, Oru Nodi as the music director. The film was a success, and his work was well-received, cementing his place as a promising talent in the industry.
