LakshmiKanth Selvam (aka) LK – Associate Director | Aspiring Filmmaker
LK is a passionate and energetic Associate Director who has worked on projects including Maaman. Born in Trichy, in the village of Jeeyapuram, he spent his early years with his grandparents before moving in with his parents during his teenage years. Due to personal beliefs and family circumstances, he lived away from his parents for a significant period.
Though academically average, Lakshmi pursued an ITI course in welding and later earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. However, his true calling was always cinema. During his ITI days, he began to second-guess his career path, feeling the pull of the creative world stronger than ever. His journey took a turn when he joined an event management company as a photographer. This role reignited his passion for filmmaking, reminding him of the spark he always carried within.
During his college days, he formed a friendship with a girl named Yazhini. Yazhini and LK shared a common interest in cinema. By seeing Lk’s interests through cinema, Yazhini introduced her elder sister, Nivashini, who was also deeply passionate about cinema and acting. Nivashini is one of the most important person , for Lk’s cinema career She is the main reason for Lk’s entry into CINEMA, where Lakshmi had his first experience of a live shooting environment through Yazhini’s Sister Nivashini. It was during one such visit that he met cinematographer Dinesh Kumar Purushothaman, a brief encounter that left a lasting impression.
A pivotal moment came when he accompanied a friend to a film-related job interview. Seizing the opportunity, Lakshmi volunteered and was selected as well. He soon began working under Mr . PETER K JAYACHANDRAN as an Assistant Director, diving headfirst into the world of cinema. in how a professional set operates, which significantly shaped my on-field confidence and skills. As a newcomer, he absorbed knowledge eagerly, honing his craft with every project. Peter K. Jayachandran sir introduced the various responsibilities and roles on a film set. Through his guidance, LK gained a clear understanding of what each task involved. However, it was Radha Dharani who practically taught LK how to execute those tasks on the ground. He has worked on several notable films such as Gypsy, Joker, and Parari. Under his mentorship, LK learned the core aspects of field work—such as set preparation, clearing the field, understanding on-set discipline, managing props, and coordinating between departments. His hands-on approach helped LK to gain real-time experience.
He gained experience by working in an upcoming Tamil web series LINGAM on JioHotstar, and later collaborated with PRASANTH PANDIYARAJ Sir, further refining his skills. His major breakthrough came with his involvement in Maaman, where he demonstrated remarkable dedication and creative insight.
LK is known for his vibrant energy, deep commitment, and unwavering love for cinema. With a script of his own already in hand, he stands as a promising upcoming director in the making—ready to bring his unique vision to the silver screen.
