Ajay – Associate Director, Love Today
Ajay is an emerging director with a deep-rooted passion for cinema. Ever since his childhood in Ramanathapuram, films have fascinated him more than anything else. While most kids spent their time playing outside, Ajay was immersed in the world of movies. One film that deeply influenced him was Anniyan, which left a lasting impression and sparked his dream to pursue a career in filmmaking.
He completed his education in Madurai, and like many young aspirants, started his journey in the industry with what opportunities were available. He initially worked on the popular talk show Neeya Naana, but he soon realized that his creative instincts weren’t being fulfilled. He craved a more dynamic and artistic role in storytelling.
Determined to make a mark, Ajay began approaching several upcoming directors in search of assistant opportunities. It was a period of confusion and uncertainty, and he faced a lot of rejection and self-doubt. But his persistence paid off when he came across a social media post by director Pradeep Ranganathan, who was looking for assistant directors for a new project. Ajay applied, got selected, and began working with Pradeep and his team.
However, the Covid-19 pandemic brought everything to a standstill. Despite the pause, Ajay remained in touch with the team, and once the lockdown was lifted, work resumed. During the shooting process, Ajay was entrusted with the responsibility of handling location scouting — a task that came with its own challenges. But he embraced it fully, learning valuable lessons along the way.
The film turned out to be a major success, and Ajay’s contributions did not go unnoticed. He later joined the team of Dragon, where he worked in the art department, further expanding his understanding of the visual and creative aspects of filmmaking. He picked up essential skills related to set design, aesthetics, and the importance of visual storytelling.
Ajay is not just hardworking, but also incredibly ambitious. He often shares interesting behind-the-scenes stories from his experiences on set, offering a glimpse into the vibrant world of filmmaking.
